Le Canard Enchaîné: Obama Delivered 55 Bunker Busters to Israel in September
November 10, 2011
Claude Angeli, the editor-in-chief of the French semi-official leak sheet Le Canard Enchaîné, having exposed in its Oct. 26 issue, that Obama had ordered the killing of Libya’s Muammar Qaddafi, today drops another bombshell.
While Obama has officially stated that he is against an attack on the Iranian nuclear sites, “the President is not always consistent,” writes Angeli.
“French intelligence services have discovered that in September, 55 American bunker buster bombs, capable of destroying underground military installations, were discreetly delivered to Israel. These wonders of explosive technology, which weigh 1 ton each, have the particularity that they can penetrate and set fire to armored concrete bunkers. Clearly, their only use to the Israeli Air Force is in case of a conflict with Teheran.
“By giving Tel Aviv the means to act, Obama wanted to prove he remains a good ally, again in contradiction [with his stated policy], without giving any green light or backing for a strike on Iran.”
(An article in Newsweek released at the end of September reported that Obama had approved and released these bombs in 2009, a move which had previously been rejected by the Bush administration. See b1396ews003.)
Le Canard then lists various voices opposing any strike, notably Meir Dagan, the former head of the Israel’s foreign intelligence agency, Mossad, who said that bombing Iran was “the most stupid idea” he’d ever heard of. The article concludes quoting an unnamed former French military official who warns that “we should not exclude an Israeli option of the ‘Dr. Strangelove’ type.”
